NAUTICAL TOURISM – Capacities and operations of nautical tourism ports in 2022.
The research covers 220 nautical tourism ports on the Croatian coast, namely 86 marinas (of which 21 are dry marinas), 85 anchorages, 16 moorings and 33 disposal facilities for vessels. The total area of their water area is 4,793,554 m2 with 19,105 moorings.

The average total capacity occupancy of berths in 2022 in nautical tourism ports amounted to 65.1%
The average total capacity occupancy of berths in 2022 in nautical tourism ports was 65.1%, berths in the sea 73.2% and berths on land 43.6%. According to the permanent contract, the average total occupancy of berth capacity was 61.7%. For vessels on a permanent contract, the average occupancy of berths at sea was 68.9%, and 42.5% on land.
Increase in the number of vessels in transit by 11.6% compared to 2021.
In 2022, there were 234,496 vessels in transit in nautical tourism ports, which is an increase in the number of vessels in transit by 11.6% compared to 2021.
Most vessels in transit, as in 2021, were under the flag of Croatia (50.2%). They are followed by vessels in transit under the flag of Germany (12.9%), Italy (12.2%), Austria (6.2%) and Slovenia (5.2%), which is 86.7% of the total number of vessels in transit. There were more vessels in transit under the flags of the mentioned countries in 2022 compared to 2021, as follows: under the sub-flag of Croatia by 12.9%, under the flag of Germany by 17.7%, under the flag of Italy by 22.7%, under the flag of Austria for 1.9% and under the flag of Slovenia for 28.9%.
According to the type of vessel in transit for which the sea mooring was used, most were sailing yachts (59.5%), followed by motor yachts (32.5%) and other vessels (8.0%). In 2022, compared to 2021, there were 9.1% more sailing yachts, 16.7% more motor yachts and 29.8% more other vessels.
According to the length of the vessels for which the mooring in the sea was used, the most vessels were 12 to 15 meters long (which makes up 36.6% of the total number of vessels for which the mooring was used in the sea), followed by vessels with a length of 10 to 12 meters (which accounts for 27.0% of the total number of vessels for which sea berths were used).
In the Split-Dalmatia County, there were the most vessels in transit for which mooring at sea was used, namely 64,346 vessels, which is 28.1% of the total number of vessels in transit for which mooring at sea was used. The Šibenik-Knin County follows with 54,306 vessels (23.7%).
Vessels on permanent berth by 9.3% more in 2022 compared to 2021.
In 2022, there were 16,176 vessels on permanent moorings in nautical tourism ports, which is 9.3% more than in 2021. 78.1% of vessels used berths at sea, and 21.9% of vessels used berths on land alone. .
According to the type of vessel, there were most motor yachts (48.9%) on a permanent berth in the sea, followed by sailing yachts (45.7%) and other vessels (5.4%).
According to the flag of the vessel, the largest number of vessels on permanent mooring at sea were under the flag of Croatia, namely 44.2%. They are followed by vessels flying the flag of Germany (17.0%), Austria (15.4%), Slovenia (5.6%) and Italy (3.1%). In 2022, compared to 2021, there were more vessels under the mentioned flags, under the flag of Slovenia for 16.2%, Germany for 7.0%, Croatia for 6.0%, Austria for 3.6% and Italy for 1.3%.
According to the length of the vessels, the largest number of vessels on a permanent mooring were between 12 and 15 meters long (i.e. 32.4% of the total number of vessels on a permanent mooring for which a sea mooring was used), followed by vessels with a length of 10 to 12 meters (i.e. 28.0% of the total number of vessels on a permanent berth for which sea berths were used).
In 2022, Šibenik-Knin County had the most vessels on permanent mooring at sea, namely 2,918 vessels, which is 23.1% of the total number of vessels on permanent mooring. They are followed by vessels with regular connections in Istria County with 2,811 vessels (22.3%), Zadar County with 2,579 vessels (20.4%), Primorje-Gorski Kotar County with 2,137 vessels (16.9%), Split-Dalmatia County with 1,672 vessels (13.2%) and in Dubrovnik-Neretva County with 515 vessels (4.1%).
In 2022, the revenues of the port of nautical tourism will increase by 14.4% compared to 2021.
The ports of nautical tourism in 2022 achieved a total of HRK 1.1 billion in revenue without VAT, which is 14.4% more than in 2021.
The largest share in the total income, or HRK 758 million, was the income from the rental of moorings (which is 70.0% of the total income). In relation to 2021, income from of renting berths is higher by 12.5%.
All counties achieved an increase in total revenues in 2022 compared to 2021, as follows: Split-Dalmatia by 23.0%, Dubrovnik-Neretva by 19.9%, Istria by 18.8%,
Zadar by 10.7%, Šibenik-Knin by 10.3% and Primorje-Gorski by 7.3%.
Šibenik-Knin County achieved the highest revenues in 2022.
In 2022, nautical tourism ports in the Šibenik-Knin County achieved the highest revenues, namely HRK 276 million, which accounts for 25.5% of the total revenues of nautical tourism ports of tourism in Croatia. The most revenue was generated from the rental of moorings, 169 million kuna, which is 61.4% of the total revenue generated in Šibenik-Knin County.
